Am 14.04.2006 wurde der 23-jährige Kongolese Dominique Kouamadio von einem Polizisten in Dortmund erschossen. Ein Schuss traf direkt Dominiques Herz. Die Staatsanwaltschaft hat die Handlung des Polizisten als Notwehr eingestuft und die Akten bereits geschlossen. Die Schwester von Dominique, die Familie und viele andere Menschen glauben, Dominique hätte nicht sterben müssen. Viele vermuten, wäre Dominique nicht aus Afrika und schwarzer Hautfarbe, würde er noch leben.
Am 14. April 2007 jährt sich der Todestag von Dominique. Die Familie und FreundInnen laden zu einer Gedenkversammlung in die Bayrische Strasse, in die Nähe der nähe U-Bahn-Haltestelle Schulte-Rödding (U42) ein. Anschließend besteht die Möglichkeit in den Räumen des Interkulturellen Zentrums im Burgtor sich auszutauschen. Vertreter der Initiative in Gedenken an Oury Jalloh und The VOICE Refugee Forums werden über ihre Erfahrungen im Kampf gegen rassistisch motivierter Polizeibrutalität berichten. Über den Aufbau gemeinsamer Informationsstrukturen und gemeinsame Perspektiven in der Arbeit gegen rassistisch motivierter Staatsgewalt soll diskutiert werden.

Ein Kioskbesitzer hatte die Polizei benachrichtigt, weil Dominique mit einem Messer vor seinem Kioskfenster stand. Als der erste Funkstreifenwagen besetzt mit drei Beamten eintraf, war die Situation nach deren eigenen Angaben nicht bedrohlich. Aus bisher ungeklärten Gründen eskalierte die Situation, ein Polizist tötete Dominique mit zwei schnell hintereinander abgegebenen Schüssen, die ihn ins Bein und ins Herz trafen. Das gegen den Todesschützen eingeleitete Ermittlungsverfahren wurde von der Dortmunder Staatsanwaltschaft wegen angeblicher Notwehr eingestellt. Notwehr? Obwohl nach übereinstimmenden Aussagen aller ZeugInnen der Abstand zwischen dem Todesschützen und Dominique mehrere Meter betrug!
Dominiques Schwester hat Anwälte beauftragt, gegen die Einstellung des Verfahrens Beschwerde bei der Staatsanwaltschaft einzulegen und forderte gemeinsam mit ihnen auf einer Pressekonferenz am 10.10.2006 die sofortige Anklageerhebung wegen "eines vorsätzlichen Tötungsdelikts". Inzwischen hat nicht nur die Dortmunder Staatsanwaltschaft sondern auch die Oberstaatsanwaltschaft in Hamm den Fall abgeschlossen.

On April 14, 2006, Dominique Kouamadio, a 23 year-old Congolese, was shot dead by a policeman in Dortmund. One shot hit Dominique’s heart. The state persecutor judges the act oft he police as self-defence and has closed the files. The sister of Dominique, her family and many others believe, that Dominique’s did not need to die. Many believe, that if he was not from Africa and had not a black skin, he still would live.
This April the family and friends invite you to the first memorial of Dominique Koumadio. The program starts with a remembrance gathering at the Bayrische Strasse, close to the U-Bahn-station Schulte-Rödding (U42). Afterwards, there is the possibility for exchange in the rooms of the Interkulturelles Zentrums im Burgtor. Members of the Initiative in Remembrance of Oury Jalloh and The VOICE Refugee Forums will report about their experiences in the struggle against racistic police brutality. We will discuss, how we could built up information structures for the community and about our common perspectives in the movement against racistic state brutality.

The owner of a kiosk had called the police because Dominique was standing in front of his kiosk window with a knife. At the time three police officers arrived by car, the situation was – according to their own statements – not threatening. Until today, it has not been clarified why the situation escalated: a policeman killed Dominique by two shots, fired directly after each other into his leg and into his heart. The public prosecutor’s office in Dortmund opened an investigation against the police officer who fired the mortal shots, but dismissed the case because of supposed self-defence. Self-defence? Despite the fact that all eye witnesses give evidence of a distance of several meters between Dominique and the policeman who shot him!
Dominique’s sister engaged the services of a lawyers’ office to file an appeal against the dismissal of the case with the public prosecutor’s office and together they demanded the bringing of an immediate charge of “intentional homicide” in a press conference on 10 October 2006. Meanwhile the public prosecutor’s office in Dortmund and the senior public prosecutor’s office in Hamm have closed the case.
