A Syrian human rights source has reported the death of the Syrian Kurdish citizen Mohammed Misto Rasheed (Ifreen/Aleppo) as a result of the torture he was subjected to in Aleppo Central Prison.
Mr. Mohammed Masto Rasheed was arrested approximately four months ago. He was subjected to severe torture whilst detained to the extent that he was transferred to the Al-Hamiyaat hospital in Aleppo as a result. Four days after his transferral he was returned to prison and his death was announced on the 19/1/2010. The source reported that the victim was not known to be involved in any activities, and the reason for his arrest is unknown.
The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) expresses both its pain for the death of Mohammed Misto Rasheed, as well as its severe condemnation of the use of torture leading to death used by the Syrian intelligence, with no limits or boundaries. SHRC calls for an independent enquiry into the causes that led to the death of the abovementioned citizen and that those responsible for his death to be tried at court. SHRC also considers that the Syrian regime does not abide by humanitarian measures, the Syrian constitution, or international covenants- to which it is party to- at all upon its detention of citizens, and which is necessary upon them as humans.
