Deutschland Lagerland Network rejects Haderthauer’s denunciation – Böbrach and Mainburg join food packet boycott

By azadi, 8 December, 2010

We will keep on fighting as long as our demands are not met!
04.12.2010: Deutschland Lagerland Network rejects Haderthauer’s denunciation and decides to continue protests – Böbrach and Mainburg join food packet boycott

On Saturday 4th of December 2010, members of the Deutschland Lagerland Network comprising 60 refugees and their supporters met in Nuremberg to assess and coordinate their struggle with respect to the ongoing strike and boycott actions in 10 Bavarian refugee camps and the sustained ignorance on the part of the Bavarian government especially the Social Ministry.

The refugees from 10 cities in Bavaria expressed their anger about the recent defamations of the Social Minister Mrs. Haderthauer. Even the most level-headed amongst them were enraged by the rhetorical force with which the Social Minister negated the reasons for their flight and unbearable living conditions. They were however gratified by the fact that all other political parties and big charity organisations have criticised Mrs. Haderthauer’s racist remarks and untenable reproaches.

Due to the unavoidable rigours arising from over two weeks of hunger strike and food packet boycott, the refugees in the camps in Augsburg who completely rejected any form of donations have decided to temporarily suspend their strike action.

However the boycott continues and is even intensified in other Bavarian camps such as the refugees in the jungle camp in Böbrach were their struggle has hardly received any public attention till date. Furthermore, due to Mrs. Haderthauer’s defamatory statements, many residents of other camps are getting ready to join the boycott actions.

The refugees in the Bavarian camps are not ready to reduce the pressure in their current struggle. They have decided to continue the strike movement together even if differences in local conditions lead to different decisions and approaches.

The striking refugees declared, „Media attention is not enough. We will continue until the politicians respond to our demands and our lives change for the better“.
Regardless of the respective local decisions of the striking refugees, the Lagerland Network calls for a Bavarian-wide Protest action on Teusday the 21st of December at theSocial Ministry in Munich in order to put direct political pressure on those responsible in the capital city. Further Steps will be discussed at the next meeting in January 2011. According to a refugee from Augsburg: „If Mrs. Haderthauer doesn’t take our demands serious during the Christmas season then we wil lremind her of an old adage that says: He who sows wind will reap a storm”!

All the refugees insist on the demands made during the struggle:
• Away with the compulsory camp accomodation
• Cash instead of food packets
• Access to work and education
• Away with movement restrictions

Currently refugees in Schwabmünchen, Denkendorf, Hauzenberg, Coburg, Wallersdorf, Böbrach und Mainburg (not noticed till now like in Böbrach) are continuing the boycott of food packets. The refugees in the three camps in Augsburg reserve the right to continue the currently suspended boycott in a few weeks time.
