Demonstration in Düsseldorf - Abolition of Chain tolerances - enforce the right to stay!

By kandolo, 13 May, 2005

As a follow up to the demonstration carried on April 2nd, a second demonstration is organized by the caravan and different migrant and refugee self-organizations and left german groups located in NRW to raise our voice against the inhuman refugee policy of german and NRW government in special. The demonstration is scheduled for May 20, 2005 just before the elections in NRW and due to the start of deportations to Kosovo from this month.

We want to express, publicly and audibly, our resistance against racist laws and regulations and the daily social exclusion of refugees and migrants. Especially, we want to draw attention to one extreme example of racist politics:
The scandalous decree of the Ministry of the Interior of the state of NRW of 28/02/05
which forces refugees who hold a “tolerance” (Duldung) and hoped for a more secure
residence status at the time when the “Act to Control and Restrict Immigration” (Immigration Act) came into force into a situation without rights and consequently into illegality.

The decree of the Ministry of the Interior of NRW of 28/02/05
must be withdrawn!

In the whole of Germany, about 230,000 people who don’t hold a German passport
have a “Duldung”. Up to now, it has nearly been impossible to get rid of a Duldung.
Again and again, there have been protests of refugees against the degrading living conditions and demands for a more secure status of residence. Members of the parties in
power have stressed repeatedly that with the new “Immigration Act” the practice of years of “Kettenduldungen” (chain tolerances) will come to an end. But the reality is: these people get nothing – at least in NRW. This means that even after for instance 15 years there is no chance to get rid of the Duldung. Even if they have been employed
for years these refugees don’t receive Unemployment Benefit !

The realization of the announced abolition of the Kettenduldungen is the minimum!
As residence permits issued according to s. 25 par. 5 Residence Act are limited, too, we need a permanent solution:
Right to stay for everyone!
Let us take action against the scandalous decree of the Ministry of the Interior of
NRW and fight for the right to stay!
For a world without borders!
